When the Michigan State University Landscape Architecture students toured our area, they were impressed by the proximity of the Southwest corner of the area to McLaren Hospital. In their studies, they had been exposed to healing gardens: natural outdoor areas where patients or family can go for a short time away from the hospital environment. Many large hospitals are incorporating such features, when their campus permits, and they thought McLaren might like to sponsor such a feature across Sunset Drive from the hospital.
The recreation area board liked this idea very much, and thought it would tie in with the trails through our natural areas and through our meadows. The board asked the planning students from the University of Michigan-Flint to incorporate this idea in their long range plan.
This would be a large undertaking, and the board has not yet proposed this idea to the hospital management.
